The 5·18 Memorial Foundation is a public organization established to uncover the historical truth of the May 18 Democratic Uprising in 1980 and to carry forward its spirit. The foundation collects and preserves a wide range of historical materials—including documents, photographs, videos, and testimonies—and provides them as educational and research resources both domestically and internationally. These records are at risk of deterioration or loss over time, making systematic digitization essential for their safe preservation and effective utilization. As a KT Cloud service partner, Solbox collaborated with archival technology specialist Pinnode Co., Ltd. to centralize, standardize, and systematize the foundation’s archives. The result is an online, cloud-based digital platform that allows the public to easily and quickly access the materials, while ensuring long-term preservation, enhanced accessibility, stronger security, and scalable infrastructure. Solbox provides both the cloud deployment and ongoing managed operation services.
The 5·18 Memorial Foundation has effectively prevented the loss of records through redundant storage and automated backup systems in a cloud environment, while significantly reducing the operational burden of maintaining physical servers, power consumption, and infrastructure management. The foundation can flexibly adjust storage capacity and processing power after the initial deployment, enabling future cost optimization. In addition, the cloud infrastructure allows seamless integration with the latest technologies such as AI-based search, automated tagging, and OCR, creating opportunities for future system enhancements and service expansion. As a result, the foundation has established a stable service platform leveraging KT Cloud Public Cloud to ensure excellence in preservation, accessibility, operational efficiency, security, scalability, and usability.
